The first difference is that their views on what needs to happen to get freedom are askewed. Dr Martin Luther King Jr believes that violence is not the way to go to get freedom as stated in the speech, “In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” On the other hand, Old Major believes that is exactly what needs to happen to gain freedom. This part of the text states, “ Is it not crystal clear, comrades, that all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings? Only get rid of man, and the produce of our labour would be our own.” Both of these views are effective even though Old Major’s disrupts the piece a little bit more than Dr. King’s strategy, which is to handle the situation without violence. These quotes both have different propaganda strategies in them as well, for Old Major, he used ignorance of followers whereas Dr. King uses oversimplification. Another difference between these speeches is the way they present their argument.
