Each student will select a major group of animals to research and ultimately create a poster or display to help explain the group of animals belonging to each class. Be sure to first read your textbook on the group as well as consult general resources before getting into specific resource materials.
Students will be graded primarily on the content of the information as well as the creativity of the poster or display. The entire project is worth 75 points and will be submitted as a biology laboratory grade. This project is entirely optional and intended solely as an extra credit assignment.
Students will have one week to complete the project. A a minimum of 4 sources need to be cited on …show more content…
a reference page and written in APA format.
The following information must be included in your project:
1.
Phylum and/ or Class name and major divisions within that group (if different)
2. Characteristics – what characteristics are common to the animals in this group?
3. Feeding Mechanisms– how do the animals in your phyla obtain food?
4. Reproductive habits – how do the animals in your phyla reproduce?
5. Methods of locomotion and appendages – how do they move? Do they move at all?
6. Response/ defense mechanisms – How do they react / protect themselves from predators?
7. Body Coverings ( skin...?)
8. Methods Respiration – How do they breathe?
9. Methods of circulation - open circulatory system vs. closed circulatory system
10. Methods of Excretion – How do they get rid of waste?
11. 5 examples with Pictures – 5 pictures (telling the name of the animal) for each phyla
12. 3 fun facts – interesting facts that you learned, that were not told in any earlier portion of the project.
Please select ONE of the following Phyla or Class to research. Please remember .... do not select a single species to research - each phyla or class will consist of several animals that make up this group!!!!
Poriferans (sponges)
Cnidarians (jellyfish, corals and anemones)
Arthropods (crabs, lobster, crayfish, insects, spiders, ticks, mites, centipedes,
millipedes)
Nematodes (roundworms – hookworms, pin worms)
Platyhelminthes (flatworms - tapeworms)
Annelids (segmented worms – earthworms and leeches)
Mollusks (squid, octopus, clams, oysters, snails)
Echinoderms (starfish, sea urchins, sand dollars)
Non-vertebrate Chordates (tunicates, lancelets)
Bony Fish (trout, salmon, sea horses, eels)
Amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders, newts)
Reptiles (lizards, snakes, alligators, crocodiles, turtles, tortoises)
