Anne Shirley's Mistakes

I believe that "tomorrow is a new day with no new mistakes in it yet" - Anne of Green Gables. I have always liked this quote because despite the fact that Anne Shirley, the main character in Anne of Green Gables, makes countless mistakes, she never stops trying. I remember the first time I heard this quote. I was snuggled in my bed, listening to my mom read to me what would soon turn out to be my favorite book of all time. This quote resonated with me as soon as my mother read it aloud. The quote acknowledges that there are no new mistakes yet. There will be more mistakes in the coming day, but no mistake is so big that it can not be fixed. Anne always kept on trying, whether it was with her friends or at school or at home. I try to remember
this quote everyday because sometimes when I make a mistake I don't know how to fix it. Last year in math class I had been moved up to honors and I didn't know what the tests would be like. The year before everything had been really easy for me so I made the mistake of not studying hard enough for the first quiz. It showed, and I got a B-. I resolved that I would study harder on the next few, and I got bad grades on those two. I was very upset because that these were my first quizzes and half way through the trimester I was getting a B-. This was not a great way to start off the year. I then though of how in Anne of Green Gables, Anne kept on trying no matter what and she never let mistakes get her down. Instead she always remembered that mistakes are part of learning and without mistakes. What is important is how you learn from them. When I went to bed that night, I resolved that I would meet with Mr. Yo, and make sure that I really understood the material. Even though I am a person who made mistakes in the past and will keep on making mistakes as I grow older, what is important is to remember that tomorrow is a fresh start to choose how you learn from your mistakes and not make the same ones. Even though sometimes it may seem hard to come back from a mistake you made, tomorrow is always a new day.
