loyal to others. It shows the characters (the Johansens, the Rosen’s, Peter, and others) that they’re not alone in this fight, and they’re not the only ones who love their country. It shows them what kind of people the Danes really are. Their patriotism plays a big part in their loyalty. This all depends on how they treat people, because that will also affect the future for all of them. In the book the Johanssons and Peter show their loyalty to the Rosens by helping them escape. When it comes to their country. They have to care more about it and its people than anything else except God. This means they have to play a big part in the category of determination not to just be strong in mind but also to stand by their nation, and defend their country no matter what the situation is. They have to defend it during war, when people want to take control, and most importantly defend it from any type of danger. In order for them to stand for their country. They have to love their country truly. In the book they show this by not giving up when the Germans started to take control of Copenhagen, Denmark. When Danes, Jews, and Germans are loyal to their nation.
They receive good treatment. We know that Germans dislike Jews and treat them badly, but this isn’t all Germans. This also causes Germans to not only lose loyalty in their nation, but also lose respect from their peers. To be loyal to the nation also means to be loyal to the people too. There also are Danes, Jews, and Germans who dislike each other and like each other. Those who dislike each other are making or did make a big mistake. We should all love each other, and be loyal to each other. When the wrong person retrieves power it leads to a destroyed, unhappy country, but when the right person takes the power back it then leads to a loving, peaceful, and loyal nation. In the book it shows that the Germans don’t get along with the Danes or jews, and that the Danes or Jews don’t get along with the Germans either. It also shows and proves that the Germans are destroying the country with every little thing they do. Annemarie went through some things. Some children didn’t have to go through what Annemarie went through. We all go through different things though. Annemarie shows and represents courage, bravery, and strong will. A reader might not have thought a kid like Annemarie could handle war so bravely. In the book it shows us that she had to be in adult conversations and she had to do some things that adults would have
done. Do we have to take risk? Do we have to give up people we love? Most importantly do we have to give up our freedom and lives. In the book Annemarie had to take risk. For example, she had to take a package to her uncle Henrik. She had to do things some kids shouldn’t have to do. Annemarie also had to give up two people she loved. Her sister, Lisa Johansen, which she soon found out it was because of a good reason. She also lost Peter the same reason, because of the resistance, but she stayed strong. When war happens we lose our freedom, but we have to put up a fight to get it back. Annemarie’s family and her had to fight for a long time to get their freedom back. They finally did. Annemarie shows us that war does have an affect on human relationships. In the end, though you do have to lose some things, people, and maybe your childhood to get everyone’s freedom back. At the end we see that not only does war have a toll on people, but also their lives and their personalities. Danes, Germans, and Jews have to be loyal not only to their country but their people too. They have to have responsibilities and act as role models. Annemarie really shows us her courage in this story. She makes us rethink everything about war and this world. She makes us rethink how war has not only affected our lives, but also our human relationships. We should cherish our childhood and its memories. Personally this story should make us rethink everything about life, and make us appreciate the things we have and our lives.
