Anne Frank Changed A Lot During The Course Of The Play

Anne Frank changed a lot during the course of the play. Her personality was high spirited and acted like a typical thirteen year old girl in the beginning of the play. By the end of the play she had grown up and matured. In the beginning of the play, Anne was a very immature thirteen year old girl. She always tried to have fun out of every situation. She was very fun- loving and playful. For example, Anne said, “ Good evening everyone. Forgive me if I don’t stay. I have a friend waiting for me in there. My friend Tom. Tom Cat. Some people say we look alike. But Tom has the most beautiful whiskers and I only have a little fuzz. I am hoping in time…” This shows that Anne was very immature and liked to play around. It didn’t appear she realized the seriousness of the holocaust at that time. Anne began to mature in the annex while writing in her diary given to her by her father. Writing the diary helped her to understand her frustrations and feelings. It helped her to discover who she was as well as not to take anything for granted. The diary helped her see how immature she was and how she had treated her mother bad and the Van Daans. She started treating them nicer. She was the only one that gave everyone a Hanukkah gift. When she realized she could talk to Peter, she realized not to take their friendship for granted because at the time, Peter was really the only friend she had. Anne at the end of the story became a very mature 15 year old girl. She grew up by herself through the diary. Writing helped Anne to explore her personality, and see how much she changed in such a short time. She defiantly matured towards her mother. At the beginning she was very rude to her mother, but towards the end she realized her relationship with her mother was not good. She became more tolerant with her mother and made the most of the relationship they had. Anne definitely grew up a lot over the whole story.
