important event would be when she met Sitting Bull in 1884. He was very impressed by her skills and decided to “adopt” her, giving her the name “Little Sure Shot.” Her and her husband later joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Oakley showed off her marksman skills and Butler became his manager.
She could do many things and tricks.
One being that she could shoot the butt off of Butler’s cigarette. She could do many other things, like shooting targets while looking in a mirror. She became more and more famous and even entertained royals like Queen Victoria. She shot a Cigarette in Kaiser Wilhelm II’s hand. She was also in a railroad accident leaving her partially paralyzed. That didn’t stop her though, she recovered later and joined the Young Buffalo show in 1911. Not long after that she retired and moved. While moving they adopted a dog, Dave, who was shown in numerous shows. She was a very charitable person. She donated often, helped the Red Cross, and shared money with her family.
She later retired completely but was in another accident leaving her and Butler severely hurt. Not even that stopped her though, she performed again for a while. Oakley died on November 3, 1926. Her husband, Butler, died less than a month after.
Oakley has a huge legacy. The song “Annie Get Your Gun” was based on her life story. There was also a film made, telling her story, called “Annie Oakley.” There were also a few books made for both children and adults. Overall Annie Oakley was a very important woman.
