Annotated Bibliography 1. Boyd, Hannah. Keeping Schools Safe. Education.com. Web page.
Secondary Source.
Intended Audience: Parents concerned with school safety issues.
This article talks about the statistics in school safety, revealing that violence in schools are actually at a decline (most likely due to the technological advances). As far as preventing violence, Boyd says you should ask your child if he feels safe in school and if there are any problems. Also, talk with your school to find out what it’s doing to stay safe, always empower the students and be involved.
I am going to use Boyd’s statistics that show a rapid decrease in school violence due to technological advances in my paper …show more content…
to show the progressive movement towards schools safety. 2. Mieszowski, Katherine. How To Keep Schools Safe. Salon Media Group. Web page.
Secondary Source.
Intended Audience: Parents concerned with school safety issues.
This article talks about three school shootings that had happened in one week, focusing on the Pennsylvanian Amish School.
It had no security, phone, or plans in case of an emergency. Then Mieszowski goes on to answer various questions about the schools and their safety/precautions.
I intend to use the facts about the Amish School shooting. The school was extremely vulnerable, not even having access to a phone. It will help my paper by showing that you need certain technological advances to stay safe.
3. Straeley, Daena. EDUCATION: Schools prepare for shootings, other emergencies. Enterprise Media. Web page.

schools.
This article talks about safety issues and how even the best protocols might not be enough. Sandy Hook had some of the best technology and tactics but nothing could stop the estranged Adam Lanza. Jacqueline’s main points are allowing officers to carry guns in school, adding more security, and funding for the upkeep in security changes.
I intend to use quotes from the fourth point “More Security” in schools to help with my thesis.
5. Volokh, Alexander and Snell, Lisa. Strategies to Keep Schools Safe. The Reason Foundation. Web page.
Secondary Source.
This article talks about dividing school safety into three methods: measures related to school management, measures related to environmental modification, and educational and curriculum-based measures. School management will deal with discipline and punishment, environmental modifications will enhance video cameras and police officers, and curriculum measures will focus on teaching the students how to resolve a problem.
I intend to use her three points, as well as a full-length description of them, to show what a school needs to do to prep not only their students but their school as well.
