Some have implemented very strict gun control and some have made firearms illegal altogether. Countries like Mexico have enforced very strict gun control measures and these measures make it almost impossible for a regular citizen to buy or own any weapon legally. A study conducted in 2010 showed that Mexico had around 15,000,000 legal and illegal firearms throughout the country (Alpers, Philip, Amélie Rossetti and Leonardo Goi. 2017). Cartel members own major amounts of those firearms. These firearms are used to commit acts of gun violence towards both federal government, local government systems, and civilians. Many of the cartels are outfitted with better weaponry than the local police force. If the local police force, is unable to protect its citizens, who will? Because of the laws enacted, the local civilian populaces not involved in cartel transactions are left defenseless. They are unable to protect themselves from the predators (in this case the predators are cartel members). The tight regulation of firearms allows the cartels the ability to control the local populace because of their fear towards those who have weapons. The cartels use this ability to their advantage. They force people to commit acts on their behalf and entice the youth into joining their gangs. This could have all been prevented had the civilian populace been allowed to own firearms. Because the police force failed like it did, had the civilians been allowed to own firearms they could have banned together to rid the town of the members who threaten their way of life. This example shows why the implementation of gun control cannot be allowed. It could possibly end up threatening a way of life for some
