The final product produced by myself Alice Nguyen, Samuel Tranter, Carltan San, Gary Zheng, Kathy Dao and Vy Nguyen, is a parody of the tv show, "My Kitchen Rules". I played the character of Antigone, Sam played Haemon, Carltan played Creon, Gary played the abusive male character Satanas, Kathy played Ismene and Vy played the submissive female character Peggy. We have had several complications involving our filming days, communication, ideas and timing. We followed some parts of the plot of "Antigone" and incorporated the issues of gender roles and power abuse.
Our filming process was a difficulty due to many reasons. When we first started planning the ideas, we had a lot that we disagreed on. We had alternative ideas of …show more content…
Antigone, was constructed to be a strong minded person who Ismene followed and looked up to. This has been demonstrated when Antigone stood up to Creon in the finale, stating that her team deserved to win instead of Satanas and Peggy. Ismene, was constructed to be submissive and a representation of the women in Ancient Greek society. This has been demonstrated when Creon announces the winner. Ismene latched onto Antigone and told her to stop . Creon was a more exaggerated representation of the character Creon in the play. He denied how the women were good cooks which is similar to how he denied Antigone digging up her brother's grave. Haemon first agreed with Creon with his decisions and critiques whoever he began to defend Antigone's dishes which is parallel to the plot of the play. Satanas is a Greek word for Satan that exaggerated his personality. The character followed his gender stereotype as being the leader of the group who bosses Peggy around in a patriarchal society. Peggy is a submissive character similar to Ismene. She has her opinions about the events that occur in the video but does not speak her mind. An example of this is when Satanas says, "women cannot do anything". Peggy had a confused expression yet she didn't deny or said …show more content…
An example of this issue is when Satanas stated that women "cannot do anything right" while Creon was judging their entree. This shows how the male character demonise his female partner. Satanas is an representation of the men of the patriarchal Ancient Greek society in "Antigone" where only men such as Creon has power. In addition, we've contributed to the issue of gender roles by showing lost of identity of women which is parallel to how Creon called Antigone by "she"for a period of time after he felt threatened of his position. In our product, we had Creon call the three remaining women contestants as "woman 1, woman 2 and woman 8" and the only male contestant by his name. We did this to show how Creon, only respected males and view women in a belittled way. Additionally, the issue of gender roles has been focused on how Creon treated the contestants throughout the video especially during judging times. This is present during the judging of the first entree when Satanas and Peggy plated a dish that was unappealing and undercooked. However, Creon pretended to enjoy the dish and appalled the pair for their "outstanding" work. Furthermore, when Antigone and Ismene plated their dish up, Creon pretended that it was "so ugly, "small" and "disgusting". During this scene, a clip was added to show Creon breaking the fourth wall for the audience to know his true thoughts of the dish by saying, "I can't wait to eat
