I chose this artwork because I’ve always held a fascination with ancient Egyptian culture. Knowing that my ancestors were brought to America from Africa has always left me intrigued about many African cultures but Egypt has always captivated my attention. As a child I learned about the many wondrous inventions and artful creations that the ancient Egyptians created from small artworks of pottery to large architectural creations such as the pyramids in Giza and the Sphinx. While learning about ancient Egyptian culture, I was also taught about their religious belief system of deities and how it differed from most religions here in America. Ancient Egyptian culture just seemed dynamic and rich and the illustrations of ancient Egyptian people are beautiful to me. I was also elated to learn about the many woman rulers who sat on the throne of Egyptian power alongside their husbands (Kings) or alone. Nefertiti is a great example of a popular woman ruler of Egypt. It is obvious that my curiosity extends itself well beyond the wedjet’s eye but I’ve decided to focus on this piece of artwork due to its mystery and what it meant to the Egyptian community and how it is interpreted now.
The two scholarly sources below will contribute to the expansion of my knowledge pertaining to the wedjet’s eye and how it relates to ancient Egyptian culture. I look forward to researching the mystery behind the artwork and its relation to Horus also the significance it
