Antz vs the Communist Manifesto
Antz

The Movie “Antz” is represents how communism works and how the main character struggles to remove himself from the colony. Antz is commonly related to Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto, which practically states that there are only two divisions of people in the world. These two groups are called the bourgeols, which is the rich and wealthy, and the proletarlat, which is made of the working class citizens. Throughout the film, the main character struggles with the extreme force of the communist like ant colony. Three moments of the film that clearly show his struggle and how he is treat for his class is at the begging of the movie when he is in the tunnels digging, poses as a hero of war, and begins a revolution.

At the very begging of the movie we find ourselves to realize that this lonesome worker ant, Z, is part of an ant colony. This colony represents how communism works. While he is digging, he stops and begins to tell Azteca and Weaver how he feels about being a worker ant and how he wants to be an individual more than just another mindless clone of the colony. Shortly later the head ant over the workers approaches Z and tells him to get back to work. When Z asks him why, the ant replies,” because that’s what you were told to do”. So just this small moment alone shows how the lower class was treated unfairly and how communistic governments have complete control over their citizens.

Following Z’s stand off with the head ant, later in the movie he poses as a soldier so that he can see Princess Bala. Although that was what he intended to do, he was accidentally sent off to battle with tons of soldier ants. All of them died except for Z, which was

The film relates to several different theories of Karl Marx in more ways than not. With Marx’s ideas on class conflict, PG & E can serve as the all powerful upper class who control the modes of production, while the rest of the town of Hinkley, CA that resides near PG & E’s plant serve as the lower class. Through all of Marx’s ideas of class conflict, his base-superstructure model most sufficiently portrays what happened in the film. In his theory, Marx describes the base as the foundation of the model, where it comprehends the forces and relations of production employer-employee work conditions, the technical division of labor and property relations into which people enter this base to produce the necessities and amenities of their lives. The base determines the conditions of its counterpart, the superstructure; the cultural, political, and social forms of life. Marx…

In the movie “Antz”, the producers tied many governmental issues into the story. The colony was led like a Monarchy, Communism, and Democracy. Communism for example was a major part of the story. Communism is a system where everything belongs to "the community", so people own nothing much more than the clothes on their back, and the State owns everything. It leaves no reward for personal incentive, and even the lives of the populace don't belong to them, but to the State. Resisting was often death. Communism is the next step between socialism and death. The government dictated the entire colony and every aspect of the ant’s lives. The person leading this type of government was General Mandible. An example of why it is communism is because the ant workers are forced to work and everything that General Mandible orders gets done. General Mandible made the decision that the termites were going to attack and asked the queen for authorization to send troops which she agreed to do.…

The ants are enslaved. The ants pick the food, the grasshoppers eat the food. While Flick is more intent on creating inventions in order to make life around the colony easier, he is also clumsy and delays the others from collecting food for the grasshoppers. Dot loves all of Flick’s inventions. Also, important to note, Flick is very inventive, but his clumsiness, we see, nearly kills princess Ada, and causes all “The Offering” to spill into the river.…

In the movie Antz, the colony's government was set up with the Queen as the supreme ruler over the entire colony. All decisions for life in the colony were made by the Queen. All ants were required to work together for the greater good of the colony. Ants were not allowed free thought or to be individuals and make choices for themselves. The Queen's daughter, Princess Balla, was to take over the Queen's position and rule the colony simply because she was the Queen's daughter. She inherited this right. There were three social classes of ants that were determined at birth, Royalty, Soldiers and Workers. They remained in that class their entire life and are not allowed to mix between the classes or change. Each of the classes entitled ants to different rights and styles of living, with Royalty being the top citizens and workers the bottom citizens. Within each of the classes, all ants were equal and expected to follow the rules of the colony. There was a General appointed by the Queen that ruled over the soldiers. The purpose of the army was to protect the colony.…

This type of violence is not easily noticeable, it reflects the generally imperceptible ebb and flow of the economic and political system. While it is not generally picked up, when dissected more thoroughly it can be quite obvious. In the store scene the general depiction of the figures holy to the migrant workers points to some inequities. “ A lopsided poster of the holy Virgen, Our Lady of Guadalupe was tacked between the posters of Elvis Presley and Marylin Monroe” (110), a subtle jab at the prevalence and reverence given to the white elite. This reality defines Zizek’s perception of systemic violence. The harsh conditions that the migrant workers face on a daily basis displays a more tangible form of systemic violence. “The white light of the sun worked hard” (49) oppression is defined by the white, endowed by the white, and sustained by it. In Viramonte’s novel the oppressive conditions of work are enough to make anyone cringe. Yet, for the meager pay and hope to survive Estrella and the rest of the farmers must work. While they may be haggard and sore, the only thing worse than continuing working is to have no money. The poor are the lowest of the low and Zizek’s systemic violence points to this. It is the “often catastrophic consequences of the smooth functioning of our economic and political systems” (2). The economic system works because…

The short story “Harrison Bergeron,” by Kurt Vonnegut, is a story about a dystopian, futuristic society in which every citizen is made “equal” to everyone else. In the story, the author seems to be telling a tale of the horrors of socialism and putting everyone on the same level, but the author is giving a humorous portrayal of socialist society to show that fears of socialism are ridiculous. In order to examine the themes in “Harrison Bergeron”, and to discern what the work reveals about the author's feelings or opinions on the subject understanding two parts of the short story is necessary: examples of ridiculous ideas in the story, and jokes in the…

¨...this religion of immoralism will more deeply wound and damage mankind than any conceivable economic or political system¨ (McCarthy 1). Both Fahrenheit 451 and Senator Joseph R. McCarthy´s speech ¨Enemies from Within¨ take place between 1950-1951. The 1950´s was a time of the Cold War when people feared communists, which inspired Fahrenheit 451 to be set in 2053 to predict what the future would look like. Bradbury created a visual for what society could turn out to be like if Communism took over and everyone was the same, controlled by government. The conflicts of fear, government control, and propaganda in Senator Joseph R. McCarthy´s speech ¨Enemies from Within¨ give rise to society and atmosphere created in Fahrenheit 451 because of the…

In the movie Antz, there were a variety of types of governments shown. The main one demonstrated by General Mandible, was fascism or also known as nazism. General Mandible uses his army to make the other ants in the colony behave. There are many different situations shown in this movie to prove that General Mandible uses Fascism or Nazism in this movie. Whereas, on the other hand, Z wants a direct democracy. He wants everyone to say what they have to say and treats everyone evenly. The first reason showing that General Mandible is using a fascism or nazism is that he does not care about every individual ant; he only cares about his colony. He does not care about what any ant has to say and whatever he says, that is what is going to happen. Whereas Z says that everyone should speak out. Also everyone is the same. In the movie, Z says that everyone should think for themselves and that. There are also many other places where General Mandible demonstrates a Nazism or a fascism type of government is that he imprisoned people when they did not so anything wrong. An example of this was when Z ran away and General Mandible imprisoned Weaver. Since Weaver did not do anything wrong, General Mandible should not have been allowed is imprison him. Z on the other hand wants the colony to be run as a democracy. As the colony was making a ladder, Z says that we are a colony, implying that everyone is just as important to one another. Also in the end when everyone gets up safely, he says that we did it, not I did it. There were many other types of governments shown in this movie as well but these two showed the major two in the movie. Even though Z did not use the direct democracy, it is what he wanted to be used and it is what would have been used if Z had been the leader.…

Throughout history, a divide has always existed between the rich and poor in society. However, during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, this rift reached its peak. The working class labored for long hours and received miniscule wages, whereas the bourgeoisie grew abundantly wealthy through the labor of the working class. Published in 1848 and 1854 respectively, Karl Marx’s The Communist Manifesto and Charles Dickens’ Hard Times both comment on these troubles. While Hard Times is a novel which tells a story and The Communist Manifesto is a short publication which tries to bring about social change, both writings offer a sharp critique of the class antagonism brought about by capitalism at the height of the Industrial Revolution.…

Each condition faced by the animals on the Manor Farm symbolize the aspects different people during the Soviet Union’s Communist time period dealt with. Many of Russia’s inhabitants received exactly what they fought against. Also, there was a gradual change in beliefs that slowly dragged the economy, faith, and understanding down. Just like the collapse of Russia, it was only time before Animal Farm met a similar fate. There is only so much individual citizens of a nation can take and only so much that a country as a whole can…

Conflict is major theme in Animal Farm, every situation which occurs demonstrates how the animals or the humans use force to take whatever they want. The humans attack the farm and the animals defend what they have already taken by force. The animals fight among themselves, unsure of how to use the power which they find themselves with. As the novel is a fable, some of the violence is comical. The comical tone removes some of the serious aspects and keeps the fable's balance. The novel is a parody on the Russian Revolution and the creation of the USSR and relates to communist revolutions. It emphasises the quotation that "Power corrupts but absolute power corrupts absolutely".…

Anthropomorphism is often used to convey a message in an easily understandable manner. George Orwell wrote Animal Farm in 1946. At this time, World War II had just concluded. The Russian Revolution had recently occurred as well. The Russian Revolution was a time period in which the laboring class was over worked, and the ruling class was pampered. Workers held riots and resented their factory owners. Animal Farm often shows this theme throughout the novel. The author’s purpose was to translate a historical event through the use of anthropomorphism.…
