Numerous people go about their lives thinking that their fear of talking to someone new or walking through the door first is nothing. In reality, is it really just a petty fear that they can deal with tomorrow? People do not realize that their nervous system has stopped protecting them. Once it stops protecting them, they start to experience anxiety. People with anxiety constantly think, “What will I do to make myself look dumb today”?
But first, what is anxiety? “Anxiety is defined by the actual threat of an object or situation that is associated with functional impairments in schools, relationships, or work” (Milosevic, McCabe, 2015, p.19).
