Core A was the most non-adjustable due to it being hypertonic which means that the total concentration of all the dissolved solute particles is greater than the other solution. Core B was isotonic meaning that it had an equal balance throughout. When two environments are isotonic it means that the total molar concentration of dissolved solutes is the same in both of them (equal). When cells are in an isotonic solution, movement of water out of the cell is exactly balanced by movement of water into the cell. Core C was the most flexible which made it be hypotonic. A hypotonic solution expresses that the total concentration of all dissolved solute particles is less. Also, if concentrations of dissolved solutes are less outside the cell than inside, …show more content…
Also, maybe the potatoes were not measured accurately and some were too small so it makes it easy to measure the cores incorrectly. A way to improve measuring is the focus on not moving the ruler or the table so that it is not moving as well as measuring it more than once to make sure the length is the same every time.
A way to relate this to the real world is that people could use the concept of osmosis to make more accurate administering IVs to put into patients in hospitals. Osmosis is extraordinarily important in the biological processes where the solvent is water. This transport of water and molecules across the membranes is essential to many processes in living organisms and keeping them healthy. In general, this experiment helped understand the different ways osmosis works and how concentration can change the weight of
