For one, the ethics & codes set standards I must adhere to in my future career. It provides me with a sense of responsibility as a healthcare provider and also it ensures that patients are treated fairly. I am very familiar with another set of code of ethics as a teacher. Prior to obtaining my position I was required to read our code of ethics carefully and sign off that I understood its importance. In my future career as a psychologist I will make sure I adhere to the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct. This will ensure that I know my responsibilities as a healthcare provider, it also ensures that my clients and I are both respected, that we each have rights and most importantly that everyone is in a safe place. As these are the rules I will have to follow in my future career, it is important that I understand them. The code of conduct was developed to provide a set of standards that professionals in the field of psychology must all follow. They protect the profession, the people in the profession and the clients. Once I am a psychologist I will be expected to know these principles and apply them in my career. As a graduate learner, getting to know these principles gives me a clear view as to what is required of me and the responsibility I will have as a psychologist.
