• Sputnik-1 - USSR - (1957)- First artificial satellite. • Pioneer 0 - USA Lunar Orbiter - (August 17, 1958) -First stage exploded. • Luna 3 - USSR Lunar Far Side Flyby - (October 4, 1959) - First image of the Moon's hidden side • Apollo 11 - USA Lunar Manned Lander -Apollo 11 was the first manned lunar landing, which took place on July 20, 1969
2. The Apollo 13 malfunction was caused by an explosion and rupture of oxygen tank no. 2 in the service module. The explosion ruptured a line or damaged a valve in the no. 1 oxygen tank, causing it to lose oxygen rapidly.
3. The Space Shuttle is a piloted spacecraft that could be boosted into orbit by a reusable launch vehicle and can return to Earth
like an airplane. Before when there was no shuttle, the astronauts had to use heat shields to get pass the atmosphere and drop in the ocean to land safely.
4. In the future, spacecraft designs will make space travel as common as air travel. Space travel will be cheaper, reliable, and safer.
5. Rocket Propulsion: uses separate liquid fuel and oxidizer, which are combined only at the moment of combustion. Pumps are required to get the fuel & oxidizer to the motor quickly enough to develop desired thrust
6. As the spacecraft approaches Earth, the crew is forced to make a risky course correction by burning the Lunar Module's descent engine in order to prevent from skipping off earth's atmosphere. The crew succeeds in righting their wayward spacecraft. The power-up procedures also worked.
6. It can be applied to out life because even when it seems like there is no hope left, if we try and make the situation the best that it can be, then there will be a greater chance of success.
