Apt Pupil

Stephen King uses a considerable amount of italics in his works to show multiple things, He uses them to show emphasis, for titles, and to show what each character is thinking. Throughout King’s novella Apt Pupil he has multiple examples of italics, for the most part King uses them to show the thoughts of the characters “ I would wake up and think: The work must go on, if only so there is no evidence of what we did here, or so little that the world, which doesn’t want to believe it, won’t have to. I would think: The work must go on if we are to survive” (Apt Pupil 7). This part is when Dussander and Todd first meet, and the pair of them are talking about Dussanders time being in the SS.
