One of the main differences found from the short stories are their settings. Although the settings were not directly stated, it can be easily identified from how the authors describe it in the stories. Araby is set in Dublin, Ireland because the character mentioned North Richmond Street which is a known place in Ireland. While Aladdin in set in the Middle East since they made use of Arabic names and their form of government is referred to as a sultan. Despite their different locations, both stories somehow share the same plot which involves young men who try to go through life and realize the hardships that come with it. The boy and Aladdin came from the lower class and are put into a situation where it changes their lives. The boy is invited by Mangan’s sister to the bazaar “Araby” while Aladdin is tasked by a wizard to retrieve the magical lamp for him. Both characters sacrifice and would do anything for their love interests. The boy worked hand and foot the whole day for his uncle to allow him to go to Araby while Aladdin changed his status and wished for riches to court princess Halima.
