A hero is considered to be, by society's “norm,” a noble person admired for his courageous achievements. Heroes are inevitable and have been present since the beginning of mankind; regardless of the authenticity of a hero. Heroes have a few indistinguishable traits that support the definition previously stated. Granted, these traits are undoubtedly bravery and selflessness. Indeed, the character Aragorn in Fellowship of the Rings clearly embodies all of the following traits necessary to be classified as a Hero. He possess bravery as evident in his motives in the noble endeavour to destroy the ring, and displays selflessness by sacrificing his well being to help protect the fellowship.
Notably, Aragorn is the only child of Arathorn and Gilraen and rightful heir to the throne. This information, however, was withheld from him. He clearly is courageous enough to stand up for his morals, and is willing to do so regardless of situation, thus supplementing my statement earlier that he is selfless. Furthermore, he is also confident, and rightfully so, due to his heightened knowledge and extraordinary skills in combat. In addition to all of Aragon’s strengths, he has very minimal weaknesses that can be easily overlooked. In conclusion Frodo would not be able to complete his journey to mount doom without the integral assistance of Aragon.
