One exemplary case of animals using tools can be found in the Toxotes jaculator, also known as the archerfish. The archerfish form of tools are similar to the action of the water pistol. The archerfish swims just beneath the surface of the water. This is so it can be able to see plants that are overhanging above the water. Whenever the fish spots an insect on an overhanging plant, it does something amazing. Just like a water pistol, the archerfish then shoots out a jet of water so it can hit the insect, causing it to fall into the water, thus allowing the archerfish to eat it. The jet of water can extend all the way to twelve feet.
