Are Volcanoes Good Or Bad
How many volcanoes are going off right now? What are these volcanoes doing to the environment and to the people? So, how do volcanoes shape the earth? Volcanoes can be harming but, what most people don’t know is, they can be helpful too. One way they can be helpful is because they put off certain minerals into the ground that can help plants grow faster and better because, it enriches the soil over time. Another, instance in which they are helpful is because, they put so much nutrients into the soil they provide a safe haven for rare plants and animals after they have erupted and cooled. One, instance they can be harmful in though is because of how many of them may be going off at once. There are many ways that volcanoes help to shape …show more content…
One example is how many volcanoes could be going off at once. This harms people because, it can wipe out more people at a time. There is also more smoke going into the air at one time. For instance according to the article How Many Active Volcanoes Are There, it says “At least 20 volcanoes will probably be erupting as you read these words” (Simkin 1). This shows about how many volcanoes could be going off at once. According to the article Volcanic Soils, Hawaii’s rich vegetation is from the rapid rate of which the soil volcano deposits break down. This also helps show that many volcanoes could be going off at one time. These are some ways that volcanoes can harm the environment and the people.
Volcanoes may be both harmful and helpful to the earth. They are helpful because, they deposit minerals into the ground to make the soil richer and better for plants. They are also helpful because they can provide as a safe oasis once they have erupted for rare and not rare plants and animals. Although they may be very helpful they may also be very harmful. This is because, of how many could be going off at once. These are just some of the many ways volcanoes help to shape and affect our earth, people, and

Volcanic eruptions can cause damage within hundreds of miles away. The volcano ash's causes airplane engines to fail, destroys crops, contaminates water, and damages electronics and machinery. When the ash touch's the ground, burying everything, sometimes even make's buildings to collapse. Mount St. Helen's produced more than 490 tons of ash that fell over some many miles. All volcanos are dangerous. They are all scattered all over the world and we don't know when they are going to blow. The three volcanos I picked were pretty interesting. The Pavlof is the most active and one of the most active in North America. The Cero Negro is not as big as the other to volcano's I picked. The Tungurahua is a very large and pretty cool looking volcano.…

A volcano is an earth hazard that occurs on faults between tectonic plates on a destructive boundary and an eruption is a natural disaster. A primary impact happens immediately after the disaster and before any response like death or collapsing or destruction of buildings. A secondary impact occurs later after the disaster, such less farm produce or a reduction in tourism. The severity of these impacts will differ considerably in a MEDC and LEDC where volcanic eruptions have taken place. These may be seen in the Mount St. Helen volcano eruption as well as in the Iceland volcanic eruption. They may also show that the impacts vary from volcano to volcano, place to place.…

Volcanic hazards can be detrimental to the lives of the people who live near the active zone of the volcano in question due to their immense power coming from the centre of the earth however with effective management of the risks the number of deaths, disrupted lives and the economic damage can be reduced greatly. An example I will use of a recent volcano that erupted was Mt St Helens which is an active supervolcano located in Washington, USA - 96 miles south of the city of Seattle and 50 miles northeast of Portland. Clearly there is an active community of people living in close proximity of the volcano, at risk from ashfall and spewing lava.…

Living near Hawaii’s volcano, Kilauea, is not worth the risk because of the uncertainty of the volcano erupting once again. In the article, “A force of nature,” there are many dangers that can occur. The gasses emitted from the volcano is toxic, these toxic gasses could affect people’s health in major ways. One way that people’s health can get affected by the volcano is, when the gases are released into the air, the gases in the air can be inhaled. These gases can harm a human body in major ways. To a point where people can get very ill or possibly die because of amount of toxic gases inhaled. Another reason why living near Hawaii’s volcano isn’t worth the risk is because, gravel-sized rocks can be discharged into the air and come hurdling…

The United States is home to approximately 169 volcanoes (“How many”, n.d.). One well-known volcano in this country is Mauna Loa, also known as Long Mountain. It is the largest volcano in the world (“Pictures: America’s”, n.d.). The Pacific Ocean rests underneath the volcano (“Frequently Asked”, n.d.). Along with Kohala, Mauna Kea, Hualalai, and Kilauea, it forms Hawaii (“Mauna Loa Earth’s”, n.d.). The physical characteristics of Mauna Loa contribute to the ongoing examinations to monitor its impact to surrounding communities and environment.…

Volcanic eruptions are caused by a red-hot liquid rock, called magma inside the earth's core. Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes. When the magma bursts out of the earth, it is called lava. The type of magma in the earth can create different volcanoes. If the magma is quite thin, the gas can escape easily and there will not be an explosion. The magma just comes out of the mountain and flows down the sides, like Volcanoes in Hawaii and Mount Etna. But, if the magma is thick and sticky, the gas cannot escape, so it builds up and up until it explodes. This can cause landslides and sends out huge clouds of burning rock and gas, which devastate everything around them, like the famous eruptions at Mount St Helens and Montserrat. Volcanic eruptions have many effects they can change the weather. They can cause rain, thunder and lightning. Volcanoes can also have long-term effects on the climate, making the world cooler; this happened when Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, global temperatures dropped by 0.5 Celsius the following year. Also, Fast-moving lava known as pyroclastic flows can kill people and falling ash can make it hard for them to breathe. They can also die from famine, fires and earthquakes, which can be related to volcanoes. People can lose their possessions as volcanoes can destroy houses, roads and fields. Lava can kill plants and animals too. The Mount St Helens volcano in 1980 killed an estimated 24,000 animals including 11,000 hares, 6,000 deer, 300 bobcats, 200 black bears and 15 mountain lions.…

Viewing an erupting volcano is a memorable experience; one that has inspired fear, superstition, worship, curiosity, and fascination throughout the history of mankind. The active Hawaiian volcanoes have received special attention worldwide because of their frequent spectacular eruptions, which can be viewed and studied with a relative ease and safety. The island of Hawaii is composed of five volcanoes, three of which have been active within the past two hundred years. Kilauea's latest eruption still continues as of today. Mauna Loa's latest activity was in 1984 and Hualalai's in 1800-1801, but is likely to erupt again within the next one hundred years. East Maui, or Haleakala, one of the oldest volcanoes, has a long eruptive history and recent activity indicates that the volcano will erupt in the near future. Last but not least, the Loihi Seamount, sometimes known as the "youngest volcano" is an undersea mountain this is still active. Scientists now believe that the hot spots lie in the ocean, deep beneath the volcanoes. These hot spots spew out of molten rock that rises to the water's surface and hardens. After doing this for a long time, the hardened lava forms an island, like the Hawaiian islands (Volcanoes Online).

The Kilauea volcano is one of the most active volcanoes on earth. It's current eruption started in January 1983, and there is no signs that the current eruption is slowing or will come to an end anytime soon. The U.S. Geological Observatory monitors the daily activities of the volcano, for example-movement of lava flows, earthquakes, surface deformation, and gas production. Kilauea has been monitored ever since, making it one of the better-studied volcanoes. Still there is much we don't understand about the inner workings of this volcano. Unlike most other volcanoes though, Kilauea is approachable. It has been called the "drive up" volcano because of the ease of access to many of its volcanic activity. On February 24, 2000, an article came…

The local effects of a super volcanic eruption would mainly be extremely high lava and ash deposits, this would affect around 100 miles around the volcano and would cause total destruction of everything in the area, and this would cause untold environmental, social and economic problems in the area, with the majority of people being killed in the eruption. The national effects of the eruption if it did take place within our lifetimes would destroy about 10,000 km squared of land, ash would fall 15 cm thick on every thing within 1000 km of the eruption, it is also predicted that it would kill 87,000 people, 1 in 3 people that were affected would die, again this…

Why are volcanoes important? Volcanoes helps plants and trees by putting out nutrients into the soil. The plants give animals food to eat and after the animals eats the plant the animal gets the nutrients from that plant. How the plants get the nutrients is the ash is full of nutrients and when it lands it covers the ground and then it gets sucked up over time then it goes into the ground and the plants get that nutrients. The trees give shade and shelter to animals so when the animals get too hot they would go under to trees. Some animals live in trees some live in the ground and some live in the grass see how volcanoes are important. Volcanoes are an important thing in this society. Without good nutrients the plants don't get enough nutrients they will die. Then the animals do not have enough nutrients and they will die too. So there will not be any people or living things on the planet. See why we need volcanoes in the world.…

There is a depiction of enormous power released during a composite volcano eruption and also an explosive eruption with lots of tephra. Hot springs do exist near volcanic activity. The town’s water supply became contaminated. A volcano does become restless quickly and earthquakes do occur. NASA also tested a robot named “Dante” at volcanoes in Alaska and Antarctica. The Lakes near volcanoes can become acidic enough to be dangerous to people(pH of water was tested initially.
