Pavlof is one …show more content…
of the most dangerous volcanoes in North America. Over the past 100 years, Pavlof has blown up at least 24 times and may have erupted on several other occasions. The remote location and weather with limited visibility, combined with the fact that there are few local places, may have allowed some eruptions to go unconfirmed.
Today, daily people from instruments around the volcano bring a continuous stream of information to scientists. Although there is very little human activity on the land immediately surrounding Pavlof , the sky above is heavily travelled. Everyday at least 20,000 international airline passengers and dozens of flights loaded with freight fly above the volcano. An eruption at Pavlof that puts large amounts of volcanic ash high into the atmosphere produces air traffic safety concerns and significant financial losses as flights must be rerouted. This is why the volcano receives so much attention from scientists. The steep slopes of no lack any vegetation. All around the volcano is a big layer of volcanic ash and rocks. An eruption in 1999 has left a wide gap of black, volcanic material around the Cerro Negro and there are two smaller volcanos right next to the volcano which were recently formed. Climbing the Cerro Negro is not like any other volcano in Nicaragua. The volcano is only about 500 meters high , the ascent is steep and tough. There is no paved trail; just a merely natural path along a rim that leads to the top. Ascent takes about one hour to the top, and although it
requires some pretty good effort the superb views are certainly rewarding. The absence of trees provides fantastic scenery, and reaching the top visitors have a 360 degree view of the area. The volcano often let's go of smoke and gas. It can be observed from above, and the volcano rim leads to the other side where the imposing volcanic chain can be seen with several volcanoes lined up one after another. Tungurahua is an active stratovolcano they also call it the "The Black Giant." It is a steep-sided stratovolcano that towers more than 3 km above its up side base. One of Ecuador's most active volcanoes. Tungurahua II itself collapsed about 3000 years ago and produced a large debris-avalanche deposit and a horseshoe-shaped caldera open to the west
Even though all these volcano's are all dangerous at the same time they are all cool in their own way. Volcano's can hurt people and place even if they miles away. The Cero Negro is not as big as these other volcano's but can be very dangerous, just like the other two could. The Tungurahua is not the only one they is also a Tungurahua 2 but it had collapsed thousands of years ago.
