Per Reporter: The children are left home alone often with Sean (Brittani’s boyfriend). Sean is verbally towards Mikel; he curses and humiliates Mikel. Sean pushes, shoves and throws things at Mikel. On 9/14/17, Mikel, Patrice (paternal grandmother) & Josephine (maternal grandmother) attended a parent teacher conference. After being dropped off at home, Mikel was noticed running out of the home. Patrice had to drive to locate him. Once Patrice located Mikel he was upset. Mikel informed Patrice that Sean allows Micah (victim’s sibling) to beat him up; Micah is three times Mikel size. Patrice confronted Sean. The number of cases of domestic violence is staggering. When people think about the word domestic violence they only think about the people that are directly involved in the altercation. The “silent victims” in domestic violence are the kids that witness the violence and have lasting effects from it (Child Welfare Information Gateway2009). We will review some studies that go over just some of the impacts that domestic violence has on the children in the household. For the remainder of this study review when you see you will see DV in place of domestic violence. Children that have been exposed to DV can…

Firstly, one similarity of assault and battery is that they both form the mens rea. For example, both intention and recklessness form mens rea. The mens rea of assault is content when the defendant intends to cause the victim to apprehend violence or does it recklessly. This can be found in the case of R v Savage (1991), a woman threw a pint of beer over the victim’s head in a pub. The glass slipped out of her hand, smashed and cut the victims wrist. The victim was the defendant’s husband’s ex-girlfriend so there was tension between them. The defendant said it was never her intention to throw glass. The prosecution only needed to prove that the defendant wanted to soak her victim with beer and not to actually harm her beyond this. Similarly,…

Domestic abuse is one of the most common types of family violence. The generic definition of domestic abuse is when one member of a family, relationship, or marriage abuses another member in their relationship. There are many signs of domestic abuse as well as many causes. The main argument people can propose about domestic violence is whether it’s ethical. Also, whether the person who is being abused earned, or deserved, the abuse. I understand that some individuals argue that the person being abused deserved the abuse, and that domestic violence is ethical. I understand this reasoning, and I also recognize that there are supporting arguments that are valid. However, there is evidence to show that the abuser’s past and their current mindset play a large part in their violence. A conflict is created because the two arguments can be supported, but one side tends to be defended and argued more frequently.…

Cohen and Felson believe that the reason the United States had an increase of offences since World War II, was that there was a major shift of routine activities. Many people have stay away from their homes and now their homes have become more suitable for motivated offenders to commit burglaries. Since more people are spending their time going to work or school during the day, more the same people are prone for motivated offenders to rob their stuff, which is why robberies and assault crimes have risen. Cohen and Felson also explained that most offenders in property crimes are likely to take any items that are expensive, durable, and portable like electronic devices or cars.…
