I got my evidence from the testimony by Tom Malinowski. Some may think that child soldiers are guilty and should be punished, but it turns out most of them are forced or left with no choice but to become a soldier.
In the same article Tom states, kids sometimes have their family killed and they are left with no choice but to join the military because they will be provided with food and water. As stated earlier, these children get their arms or legs cut off, or even killed if they refuse to join the army. While it may be true that if the children don’t get prosecuted they won’t know what they’re doing wrong because they aren’t getting in trouble.
Nevertheless it states in the article “The Challenges of the African Criminal Court in Prosecuting Child Soldiers”, that children are forced into fighting, drugged, and made to believe that they will be killed if they don’t fight.
In conclusion, I think that the child soldiers are victims due to all the evidence stated above. I feel strongly that they should be given a second chance to rehabilitated. They should be helped for a fresh start at a new life, and not
punished.
