Lucid dreaming could be used for different purposes. People may want to try it just for fun, using it as a "safe drug", and having fun is an understandable reason for lucid dreaming. However, they should be careful not to be addicted to this way of escaping their waking life. If dreamers find that they’re spending more time asleep than actually needed, they …show more content…
might want to consider taking a look at their life. If they're accomplishing the goals they have for his/herself, or are happy with the state of their life, there’s no reason to worry. If their life needs work, they should take a break.
Lucid dreaming could weaken the borders between dreaming and waking, real life and fantasy, and the conscious and subconscious mind.
This might lead to problems of a bad nature. Probably the most common kind of division involves having problems distinguishing their dream memories from waking memories. Usually everyone who recalls at least one dream will have to sort out their dreams from real life after dreaming. This can really be a problem for those who have a bad memory, and due to lucid dreaming, some may find it getting worse. When people have fuzzy false memories to sort out, it could be difficult to figure out what is real aside from what is fantasy. This is unlikely to be an extensive problem, but could be a big annoyance. An example is when they misplace something, and somehow find it in a dream. If they cannot distinguish dream from reality they’ll now think they know where that item is. Even if they placed it where they’re sure they’ll find it later, it won’t be there when they wake
up.
However, if they experience the following while awake, it implies that a problem may be developing; finding signs that they've done something but don't remember doing, not recognizing a familiar place, having the ability to ignore extreme pain, feeling like they’re reliving the past to where it’s lifelike, forgetting events in their lifetime, discovering foreign things in their belongings, being in a place but unaware of how they got there. Supposing that there is no other cause for any of these things happening, take it easy with the lucid dreaming.
Most people have never even heard of lucid dreaming, much less ever experienced it. Some people aren’t open-minded to different ideas, so don’t be surprised when someone thinks that it’s strange, it’s just new and unfamiliar to them. Most importantly, if you ever try lucid dreaming, just know that it comes with consequences when you aren’t careful.
