Sadly, with search engines such as police violence, it is not surprising to find many articles about “unarmed black men shot and killed by police”. This alone demonstrates the prolonging of racial inequity the government plays a role in. In a PBS news hour interview, Ebony Howard stated “when a black boy engages in a certain type of misbehavior, there is a perception that that is criminal. In contrast, when a white boy in a different school district does the same thing, that is perceived as adolescent misconduct” (Howard). Cases similar to this BROAD reasoning led people to believe in the misconduct African Americas were receiving. Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Oscar Grant III all prime examples of a young innocent African American man who died at the hands of the white superior and in the end failed to receive lawful punishment for their wrong doings. In the article The Atlantic, it is said that “Rookie officers are taught what is widely known as the “first rule of law enforcement”: An officer’s overriding goal every day is to go home at the end of their shift.
