Then there’s this very ambitious dream of space exploration. With the universe being so massive in size, with countless stars and billions of galaxies in it, with the Earth just being a dot in the whole thing, it makes me think, what’s out there? That is what space exploration has been trying to answer.
“Space Race”, have you heard about it? It was between the Soviet Union and the United States in the 20th century. Two countries fighting over which had the upper hand in space flight capability. A lot of people doubted their ideas. I’m sure even I would have doubted this if I was alive during the time it happened.
The Soviet Union got a lead by launching the first ever artificial satellite into space and soon after, the first man followed, Yuri Gagarin, who was launched into space in a spacecraft that orbited the Earth once over the course of 108 minutes. Sending a human out there was already a big step for humanity but the United States did not stop there. On July 20, …show more content…
1969, the impossible became a reality - mankind landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men who walked on the moon and that ended the race. After that, it became clear: mankind was capable of space exploration.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA and other space agencies never stopped to explore the universe until today.
With countless satellites, drones, rovers, and many other things being sent into space to observe and gather information, countless discoveries about our Universe have been made. There are even plans of sending people to live on another planet, more specifically, the red planet Mars. NASA is currently looking for people who would voluntarily go to a one way trip to it, live there, and start a new life. Over the past years, NASA has gathered information about the red planet through rovers and satellites, which is why they are confident in this mission. This is just one example of what you can do with space exploration. The possibilities are
limitless.
All the efforts put into those explorations and all the fuss about going to the moon and other plantes, I wonder, what about the rest of the Universe? If you think about it, in perspective, the trip to the moon was only less than 1% out of the 100% in the ongoing explorations of the universe. Space exploration intrigues me in a way I can’t explain. It bothers me because I know for a fact I would not be alive when the time comes that mankind can travel the universe freely and finally unravel the mystery of the universe. “Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.”
