Arguments Against Government Censorship

The government is suppose to protect our freedom of expression, not censor it. People are putting censorship (officially suppressing ideas or writing) on art, book, and the internet. After Donald Trump became president multiple government websites disappeared from the web. These websites helped to inform US citizens about what is going on in the government. There shouldn’t be censors on the information people need, art people observe, or books people read. These censoring had formed unworldly, immature teenagers. Our young adults are the future, and they’re not ready to go into the adult world still. Censorship has got out of control because it infringes on teenagers rights to learn about the world and to express themselves.

Art is a way for people to express their emotions, ideas, and perspectives, and people have the audacity to censor it. In my Art Appreciation and History class, the 16-18 year olds were laughing and joking when an obscene sculpture was shown to us. Our teacher had to stop the class and put a black rectangle box on all the pictures, censoring the images. It’s a shame my peers are not mature enough to look at a piece of art, but who can blame them? Their parents censor them from
No parent wants their kid exposed to racism, profanity, and sexual behavior, which is why some books, like “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, are censored in schools. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” there are uses of the words, “damn”, “whore lady”, and “nigger”. Censoring obscene book like this has impacted our children. Children are growing up immature, unprepared, and unworldly and colleges are not looking for these type of young adults. They want adolescents who are aware of the world around them through exposed to the positive, and negative aspects of the world. This will help them widen their perspective of the
