Art is a way for people to express their emotions, ideas, and perspectives, and people have the audacity to censor it. In my Art Appreciation and History class, the 16-18 year olds were laughing and joking when an obscene sculpture was shown to us. Our teacher had to stop the class and put a black rectangle box on all the pictures, censoring the images. No parent wants their kid exposed to racism, profanity, and sexual behavior, which is why some books, like “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, are censored in schools. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” there are uses of the words, “damn”, “whore lady”, and “nigger”. Censoring obscene book like this has impacted our children. Children are growing up immature, unprepared, and unworldly and colleges are not looking for these type of young adults. They want adolescents who are aware of the world around them through exposed to the positive, and negative aspects of the world. This will help them widen their perspective of the
