In the novel the narrator states “Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones” (60). In some parts of the book Roger use his power over the island in a negative way. In the beginning of the chapter “Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dares not throw” (62). Roger has power…

This is because Oliver begins with describing the penetrating fear of a “terrible” (33) great horned owl, and suddenly develops into a section discussing a desultory and trivial field of flowers. The mystifying comparison between the daunting fear of nature and its impeccable beauty is in fact Oliver’s purpose.…

Maria Doria Russell wrote The Sparrow in such a stunningly clear but complex way that the reader will want to keep reading the book. She presents the timeline of the story through presenting two story-lines. Then the follow-up of the backstory of this Jesuit Priest who is a wizard with grasping language and how he got to end up on a space voyage. It is through these alternating shifts between the future and the past there is a build-up…

In the novel, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, the attack of Hassan is a significant event as it is the beginning of Amir, the narrator’s search for redemption. The opening chapter of the novel starts with Amir who lives in Pakistan with his father, Baba, and his servant, Hassan.
