Holly is going to save her friends from a missile. “Holly increased the power of her wings rising through the massive charred chute. There were mud men to be saved.”(Colfer 90) That is caring because she recognized that someone is in need of help. Holly cares enough for her friends to try to save them when there are very little chances for success. Holly spun on her heels, racing to the other side of the hotel. She compares the roles of the nymphs, focusing mostly on the difference in sexuality between the nymphs of Artemis and Hermes. Both nymphs are portrayed as being very sexual, and sexualized, but unlike the nymphs of Hermes, who are able to pursue their sexual desires, and do, nymphs of Artemis are bound, like the goddess they serve, to a life of chastity, untouched by a man.…

"Never affirm, always allude: allusions are made to test the spirit and probe the heart" (Umberto Eco). The Faerie Queene consistently alludes to the book of Revelation adding both richness and depth to the story. Revelation played a huge role in the development of this epic being that it was the main book that was referenced from the Bible. The allusions help set up the story, and also add references that most people of that time period can understand. The Bible was the most popular book in the late 16th Century, so to allude to anything else might go unnoticed. Spenser uses the Book of Revelation and the Bible in abundance to add…

Various characters in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet exhibit aspects of an “outsider”. The obvious choices being Claudius and Hamlet. Claudius appears to be freed from moral restrictions, while Hamlet represents the stereotypical isolated intellectual. However, both of them pale in comparison to the true outsider in the play: Ophelia. Both Claudius and Hamlet are too respected and entangled in the lives of others to be considered the ultimate estranged outsider. Ophelia on the other hand, is constantly pushed to the periphery, despite her significant relationships with many of the main characters. She is also unable to comply with the restrictive and conflicting expectations placed upon her.…

Disguise and Deception are one of the many themes portrayed in the Odyssey by Homer translated by Stanley Lombardo that can be connected and compared to the Torah. There are many examples that can prove Disguise and deception in these two literary texts, one of these being when Odysseus disguised as a beggar, and when Athena disguised herself as Mentor. This can compare to the Torah in examples like when Angels disguised as people to convey messages from God for example to Lot and Abraham, and Joseph disguised himself from his brothers in Egypt. These and many more prove that The Odyssey and the Torah are very closely related in the theme of Disguise and deception.…

In Homer's The Odyssey, women are looked at in two ways; as being the evils in the world and hindering on Odysseus's homecoming or as being loving and faithful. On his journey home, Odysseus weaves his way through many hardships and temptations that are created by the women he meets on his voyage back to Ithaca. Calypso and Nausikaa play a large role in representing temptation while Penelope represents loyalty for she was the only good and loyal woman who waited for Odysseus to return home unlike Clytemnestra who found a new lover.…

Fairy tales are probably the most important and constant part of our society. The stories are embedded deep within us since childhood, and are relived constantly throughout adulthood. What they represent haunts us, and their meanings are as obvious as the mundane paths of lives we all go through. Whereas children seem to be lacking full understanding of them, adults are no strangers to the world of fairy tales. As C. S. Lewis once said, “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”…

TS All the actresses and actors in this film were carefully picked, and I believe they all fit well with the characters from this movie. 1. Hilary Swank, who is Holly in the film, has a great deal of emotions and shows her vulnerability as a newly widowed woman. 1a. The way she acts while staying at home and not wanting to leave, while also not properly taking care of herself when she is mourning, portrays a real sense of feeling. 1b. It is as if I am her friend watching overhead. 2. Gerard Butler, who is Gerry in the movie, gives some comic relief throughout the movie, because he is a comical Irish man who sings and jokes around in his letters to his wife, planned for her to receive after his death. 2a. I believe Gerard Butler is well picked in the movie because he has a deep soothing voice for his storytelling, yet a joking attitude, which matches his character perfectly.3. Harry Connick Jr’s character Daniel plays a socially awkward guy who looks like a musician, and which varies from what Holly is use for she is a stern woman. 3a. His role as a new friend to the widow Holly and almost more than a friend towards the end of the 126 minute long film was perfectly portrayed. 4. Also, Holly’s best friends, sister, and mother support Holly throughout her husband’s brain tumor and death. 4a. These actors clearly match the roles of their characters.4b. Each actress brings comic relief throughout the film, for example, during the trip to Ireland when Holly and her best friends went fishing on the lake.…
