1.) Did Arvel Smart behave unethically by accepting the internship with the St. Louis accounting firm when he intended to accept the outstanding jod offer from the Big Four accounting firm at the completion of that internship? Defend your answer.
ANSWER:

No, the decision made by Arvel Smart can’t be considered as unethical because it was just an offer and though he intends to accept the offer of Big Four, he is not bound to accept that offer. In other words, it’s really up to him. I think the unethical issue would arise when there is a monetary consideration along with the offer and Arvel Smart accepts it, but then refused to be employed.

2.) Before interviewing with the two St. Louis accounting firms, did Arvel have an obligation to inform them that he had an outstanding job offer from a Big Four practice office in Kansas City? Why or why not?

ANSWER:

Practically wise, to ensure that he will be accepted in the internship program, he should inform the St. Louis about the outstanding job offer because for sure that’s an additional credentials to him or he can use this as way of inducing the said firm to accept and give him exciting job and of course with high remuneration as what he thinks at the back of his mind before accepting the internship program. But whether he have told this or not, I believe that he has no obligation at all not unless he was asked about his past work experiences and the related matters to it. So it’s really up to him to disclose this matter or not.
