The reasons and importance of not missing appointments

There are many reasons in which you should not miss appointments. One being that you as a person at the very given point in time of making an appointment somewhere have officially given your word that you will be there at that given time, yes there are things that can happen before said appointment that would make you miss it or possibly reschedule or just that fact that it slipped your mind. In this instance which is the first time I have ever missed any type of appointment in any shape or form, I accidently lost my appointment slip and at the next meeting that I went to I asked Ms. Quinn when the appointment was scheduled for because I didn’t want to miss it because if you miss an appointment while you are in the army it is blown completely out of proportion and nobody wants to deal with the aftermath of missing an appointment because then you find yourself writing 1500 word essays and possible UCMJ action, and nobody wants any of that.

Superiors and peers alike see missing an appointment as a sign of “shit-bagary”, I’m not sure exactly why but everyone makes mistakes, some make more than others but you can’t help it sometime and it is because we are only human. This is the first appointment that I have ever missed and I don’t plan to miss another ever again. From here on out I will be sure to keep positive control over any and all appointment slips I may get and or have. Also I plan on making copies and keeping one on my door in my wallet and one in my uniform pocket to make sure that there is no possible chance of me ever missing and or forgetting and or losing a slip that will let me know if I may have an upcoming appointment.

I also plan on informing others the importance of keeping multiple copies of their appointment slips because I would not want any one to miss one either and have to do “ corrective – training “ for something as petty as accidentally forgetting to be at an appointment

What was the misunderstanding that occurred? His directions on how to get to the medical building were clear, but not clear on where to drop the lab paperwork off once I was there. He stated, “Drop the papers of at the first clinic to the right, once you walk in the building, you can put them in their box.” So I did exactly that. I ended up dropping the papers off to the wrong clinic though because it was supposed to be dropped off at the women’s clinic and I dropped it off at the primary clinic. The clinics had switched their locations in the hospital a week earlier. I didn’t know because when you drop off paperwork, you drop it in a drop box, which it only said drop box. Therefore, since it was dropped off at the wrong location, it was not processed correctly, which made it late for the Commander. Since this happened, the Commander had to locate the paperwork, get it to the right location, and have them expedite it back to him. I ended up finding out that the paperwork was for a solider that was wounded.…

Article Eighty-six of the Uniform Code of Military Justice makes it a crime to fail to go to one's appointed place of duty at the time prescribed, to leave one's place of duty, or to be absent from one's unit without authority. Article Eighty-six or Absent Without Leave, states verbatim “Any member of the armed forces who without authority fails to go to his appointed place of duty at the time prescribed; goes from that place; or absents himself or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty at which he is required to be at the time prescribed; shall be punished by court-martial may direct.” Being a certain member appointed for a specific duty at a specific time and place and not showing up or showing up late, whilst knowing of the appointed duty. And without proper authority skipping or showing up late. It is always important to be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there. Even more so in the Marine Corps. Punishment for violating Article Eighty-six of the UCMJ is left to the discretion of the member's direct chain of command. Whether that be an NCO, Staff NCO, or Officer. The first violation is typically a verbal or written counseling, second a written counseling along with a specific form of deterrence such as: reporting in to the duty NCO every four hours through out the day, even in the members off time. Third violation will usually result in a much harsher punishment such as a Page Eleven, Sixty-one Zero-five, or Nonjudicial Punishment, Court-Martial, and Administrative separation from the service. If taken to Nonjudicial Punishment member could end up losing rank, pay, and be confined to restriction. It is all about accountability. Though normally accountability is an individual responsibility it may become a unit responsibility or the responsibility of a superior to ensure you are where you are supposed to be at the appointed time. Not only will punitive action be taken but your peers will be affected as well. Some may…

Employees should make two copies of the appointments for the day and place one on the physician’s desk. If there are more than one physician at the office then make sure each physician gets a copy of the appointments for the day. Once you give the physicians a copy of the appointments, take the other copy and go pull all medical records that are needed for the day and place them in a secure location where Medical Assistants can get them. Check the medical records to see if there is enough progress note space available for the physician to write notes, if not then add a new sheet. Also look over the medical records from previous visits to see if there was any lab work or treatments were ordered for the patient and see if the results are ready for the physician.…

When I plan and organise a meeting I have to ensure everything is taken into consideration in order to help guarantee the meeting runs smoothly and everything is as the Councillors and officers expect it to be. First on the list is to ensure a room has been booked and if it hasn’t to book a room for the appropriate time and ensure there is sufficient parking available for the Councillors and any external officers. I do this by calling Mouchel and booking sufficient spaces to comply with the amount of people it is needed for. This information is then sent over to our receptionists to put out a sign in the morning of the meeting to hold the spaces for the time required and this acts as a sign post for the officers who are unsure where they have been allocated as there names will be on the sign. For some meetings Lunch vouchers are required as it can sometimes go on all day. For example, Health Scrutiny Committee for Lincolnshire has a formal meeting from 10a.m. – 1p.m. and continues on after lunch with an informal workshop for Councillors. To issue these lunch vouchers a template is printed off for the required amount of people and signed by a manager or section leader for example; my team leader would sign these if I required them for a meeting.…

One of the first things I learned upon entering the proud United States Army was to be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, with the right attitude. No Soldier can go wrong as long as they stick to those guidelines. That said, there are Soldiers that do happen to slip up and find that they are not at the right place at the right time. Those people are most commonly known as ‘’no shows”. What do I mean by “no shows”? “No shows” are the Soldiers that fail to show up at their "place of duty" at the time they were designated to be there.…

There are a number of duties that should be completed before the patients arrive to the office. Preparing ahead of time will help with the flow of the day. If employees get everything completely prepared for that day more than likely the day will be less stressful and the office will run smoothly. Employees should always arrive earlier than the patients to get the office ready for the patients. Some duties that should be completed before the arrival of patients include: turning on all equipment, calling the answering service to collect messages, making copies of appointments and pulling medical records, replenishing the examination rooms and restrooms, and making sure prescription pads are available for the physician.…

Missing an appointment could have a knock on effect to every aspect of military life, yourself may become a burden, you could infect others making them a burden, which could result in loss of training. You may not be operationally fit to meet your duties, someone else then may be asked to step in for you, but then someone will have to step up to full fill their duties. And as you see it can go round and round in a viscous circle. And in this current climate with all 3 forces being reduced massively we are already massively stretched for manpower, we…

Repeated tardiness can cause a lot of issues for the unit but it more than likely can severely impact the soldier making the offense. Leaders may choose to annotate events of tardiness in the service members counseling packet. If the soldier has received enough counseling’s, or if a single event is severe, then the leader can push for administrative action such as filing for an Article 15. A soldier who is late can be charged with violation to multiple punitive articles prescribed in the UCMJ:…

The people who work for you are being thrown under the bus when an appointment is missed. In my case, the people at the physical therapy clinic who work tirelessly to provide care for others that are injured, to get them back in fighting shape. By missing the allotted time all of the preparation and care to make me better was essentially thrown down the drain. A substantial amount of time was wasted that could have been used to benefit me or another soldier. I cannot reiterate enough, the selfishness of missing an appointment. All that was needed was a simple call, a common courtesy, for the situation to be resolved. By missing my appointment I basically told the physical therapy clinic that my time is more valuable than yours, which is very disrespectful.…
