The French Revolution, which took place at the very end of the 18th Century in France, was of crucial significance to the history of modern day society. It was to be one of the most important political and sociological reformations in history, and brought an end to the legitimacy and sovereignty of the monarchy, aristocracy and clergy, and instilled reforms upon liberal principles and democratic notions and important fundamental notions such as individualism equality and rights, namely in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. In comparative terms the French Revolution may not have been the large scale international event when compared to World War II for example, but it was of massive importance in sociological and political terms, and it instigated reforms that spread and impacted states, nations, organisations, politics, philosophy as well as billions of people. Its liberal ideals still form the foundations of modern society across much of the globe, and particularly in the Western Hemisphere and Europe, over 200 years after its occurrence. Its ramifications continue to reverberate and influence large portions of modern day ideas, practices and theory from democracy to economics to individualism to law to politics and international relations etc. The aftermath of the French revolution catalysed democracy, capitalism, industrialization, which consequently led to social, political and economic reformations that still prevail in the modern world. The aftermath of the French Revolution, lead to quite possibly the most significant period of industrialisation in the history of humanity and its radical principles paved the way in allowing capitalism and liberal individualism to be the dominant forces for most of the world. So high is the significance of the French Revolution, it’s telling that it formed and operated in the period known as the ‘Age of
