Assignment #4
1.) If my campus began to allow students to carry concealed weapons then I would do so as well, for the safety of myself. If students are allowed to bring weapons to school, that would highly increase the chance of someone getting hurt. So, in order to protect myself, I would also bring a weapon to school just so that I can be safe and protect myself when needed.
2.) What government does and why it matters: The Government tries to direct attention to state issues, and addresses the concerns and problems facing present day Texans. The government plays a big role in how our nation functions. Although the governor is the most visible leader in Texas politics, Texas governors have fewer powers than governors in other stares. This is in keeping with Texans’ mistrust of excessive governmental power.
Low Voter Turnout: In most elections, fewer than 50 percent of U.S. citizens vote, this isn’t good, because the voter turnout is credited to less than half of the population, leading to an inaccurate election. Texas is a huge state, but unfortunately, Texans rank in the bottom third in terms of voter participation. Most young people don’t exercise their right to vote. There are many reasons as to why many Texans don't take the advantage to vote, a few being because of the high rate of poverty, low levels of educational attainment, and lack of media attention to substantive political issues.
