Lauren is a normal sixteen year-old girl with great eye-sight. Ten years ago, her and her parents were hoping that she wouldn't lose too much sight or lose it completely. Lauren was born in Nicaragua, which is a fairly poverty struck country. As a child, Lauren would play outside with her friends, usually in the dirt, in the rain. After she would take a shower from playing, she would complain various times to her parents about her eyes hurting or bothering her. At first, her parents thought it was some type of allergy, but as she complained more, her parents decided to take her

I never used to write. In fact, I didn’t much like it. Little did I know that writing would become obsolete and a physiological requirement for the well being of my life. From an early age on all I did was read. I grew up in an isolated environment where books were my escape, and escape was necessary from the hardships of home. I remember being a young seven-year-old boy wearing a pillowcase around my neck fastened with a pen. I was eating animal crackers at the time, and my step dad was calling out for me. I stood up from my crouched position and raised my hand as I learned from pre-school, and said, “ I’m here daddy.” At that moment my step father grabbed me by the cape harshly compressing my trachea purposefully, shaking me back and forth with his hands around my neck as I began to choke on the appetizing cracker animal crumbs within the back of my throat. I didn’t understand at the time what was really going on. My mother came out of the room and my dad acted as if nothing happened and told me to…

Middle school was really weird time for me. It seemed like it was the most dramatic / drama filled. Our school at St. Peters was messed up, anything that could happen did. I've had teacher come up to me and ask for answers to what happened. Students doing bad things and etc. Also middle school to me was so fun, because people who I like got in trouble because of me. If you weren't my friend at St. Peters you better hope that you weren't mean to me, because if you were the teachers would find out what you did and they get in trouble.…

The prewriting strategy I prefer to use is clustering. I like that clustering allows me to figure out the relationship between ideas. Clustering also helps break down the main idea of the paper. With clustering if I can not come up with key ideas for my main subject, I would consider changing my topic. After reading Chapter 2 “Review of The Writing process” in the Ticket to Write textbook, I am willing to try the listing strategy. I like that I do not have to focus on what may or may not be a good idea. I can just simply write down a lot of possibilities. I will now focus on using clustering, and listing for my prewriting strategy.…

It was my first year of high school and I thought about playing sports but never told anyone. All my friends were already into sports and I didn’t even understand it. First, I thought I would be too shy to play anything, I don’t like a crowd of people. Then I thought my weight and height would be a big issue, I didn’t even think I could get pass try outs. Everywhere I would go I would always be the shortest person. Eventually my thoughts changed.…

My nose is overwhelmed with the smell of hairspray, baby powder, and a fruity perfume. There are too many girls in here, all struggling and fighting for a space near the mirror that covers the entire back wall. It’s dim in here, but it’s a good kind of dim, almost calming. The only light is coming from the round vanity bulbs that line the top of the mirrors, making it so that the fluorescents don’t impair what natural light reveals. I make my way to the red lockers on the right, squeezing past two of my fellow giggling cast-members as they try to make their way out the swinging door. After opening my locker, personalized with my name stickered on the front in purple sparkly letters, I get out my bulking make-up bag and curling iron. My eyes dart across the room in search of an available outlet, hoping one even still exists within the chaos. I look around the base of the walls near the white and blue tiled floor, trying not to get annoyed at all the hair straighteners that are just sitting there unused and warming. I roll my eyes and…

“Mamo, nie chce isc do szkoly, ja sie boje!” That is the first thing I told my mom in Polish before walking into my classroom on my first day of school. I was terrified, and I told my mom that morning that I was scared and I didn’t want to go to school. Growing up in America and having English being my second language was extremely difficult for me as a child. I remember crying everyday before school because I dreaded the embarrassment of not knowing English and the humiliation put on me by my peers. First grade was the hardest year for me throughout my academic life. I knew a few things to say in English; basic words and phrases but not enough to carry on a conversation with someone. My teacher decided that I needed one on one help with another…

Call it terror, stage fright, a panic attack. By anyone's terminology, I literally thought I was going to die. Or maybe I simply wanted to die, rather than proceed with my dismal fate. Sensing a lack of oxygen in my lungs, I began to quietly hyperventilate. Breathe, Kelly, breathe. For a split second, I wondered if this was how people felt at the very moment that they "lost it".…
