In Lloyd Alexander’s book The Book of Three, a young man named Taran chafes under his apparent nothingness. After listening to Taran’s rant, Coll, his mentor, gives him a title: Assistant Pig-Keeper. However, this is only a title to the same responsibilities Taran is doing and has been doing for quite a while. This is not enough for Taran, who dreams of being a knight and becoming a hero by his acts of bravery.
As the story continues, he gets to live his dream. He leaves his hometown, Caer Dallben, meets a famous knight, and ultimately takes on the role of knight himself.
It would seem that he would be happy with this new arrangement. After all, he’s finally living his dream! He is no longer a nobody
