There are two types of asthma: allergic and nonallergic. Allergic asthma can caused by exposure to an allergen. However, allergies are just one of the factors that can trigger an asthma attack. Not all people with asthma are allergic, and there are many people who have allergies but do not have asthma. Nonallergic asthma is caused by stress, exercise, illnesses like a cold or the flu, or exposure to extreme weather, irritants in the air or some medications.
