Astrocytes
Within the brain and spinal cord are the most important cells. Astrocytes are glial cells and have earned their name because of their star shaped figure. They make up a large population of cells in the brain and have a multitude of functions in the Central nervous system. The roles of the various types astrocytes include preserving, supporting, and mending nervous tissue. There are known to be three main kinds of astrocytes which are Protoplasmic, Fibrous, and Radial. Protoplasmic astrocytes happen in gray matter. They have a lesser amount of fibrils within their cytoplasm and lack cytoplasmic organelles. Fibrous astrocytes are located in white matter, have lengthy processes, and are scarce in organelles. Radial astrocytes …show more content…
The aid the nervous tissues and are the reason behind the pliability of the nervous system. They are developed as things are learned and is similar to a network (that keeps everything connected). They serve as a blockade between the blood and brain and heal internal scarring that could have been caused by plaques (related to Alzheimer's) or trauma to the brain. Plaque is an unusual clustering of protein in the brain. Scientists are not positive about Astrocytes yet, and more studies are yet to be conducted. This doubt is caused by some stroke victims not having the glial cells help their recovery caused by trauma. Astrocytes during recovery differ from each individual. For example, in CNS diseases, it is being discovered that they may affect CNS disorders (which are issues and disorders within the Central Nervous System). But it is also debated that if these cells are meant to repair problems, then why do they not always do so? Memory is dependent on astrocytes, hence why it's associated with the difficulties in memory. Therefore, the glial cells come to assistance for recovering from trauma (ex.
