Experience: The Best Way to Learn
I have been living with pressure and expectations from the moment I realized what these two words mean. Being the eldest and the only girl in a still traditional Chinese family, I have to be responsible and be a very good example to my younger siblings. Due to this lifestyle, I have been a consistent academic achiever. Although grades are just numbers, they are still partly determinants of success. I have also realized that achieving all the results of hardwork and the process done to get there is not only fulfilling, but the most important of all. The history and the journey, good and bad, that led me to the path I am in now define me as a person. I acknowledge the know-how more than the result because it is where efficiency of effort comes from. This taste of reality awakened the perseverance in me.
Life is like pottery; it takes time, patience, and artistry to get into the best shape that we can be. At the end of the day, it is our mistakes and accomplishments that mold us into better versions of ourselves. But at the same time, I also don't want to neglect the stories and experiences that my family, friends, and the other people around me shared and imparted because in some way, they have also impacted my life and helped me define who I want to be. Firsthand experiences are great teachers, but learning could also be secondhand.
