Atmosphere During The 1950s And 1960s
One of the first events that contributed to the hopeful atmosphere during the 1950sand 1960s was the first televised debate in the American history. For the first time, those who could not be present on such presidential debates, were able to see the debate and base their decision on such. While Kennedy seemed very relaxed, Nixon seemed nervous. This affected the polls and certainly the elections. Kennedy was then elected President and, also, he was the youngest elected President. Another event that promoted the feeling of optimism and progress was the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 which provided equal and share educational achievement regardless of nationality. This was an example of how the Country was progressing towards
a better Country. Lastly, the space program begun by late 1960s. Even though such event occurred on 1969, the landing of Apollo 11 on the moon marked the U.S. History forever and their feeling of progress into the modern world.
