This quote shows that Atticus can keep from getting angry, even in situations like being spit on. "I wish Bob Ewell wouldn't chew tobacco" (Lee ). He has the ability to remain calm in the most difficult situations. He even managed to remain completely calm with Bob Ewell’s testimony. Bob was clearly trying to make the court case into a comedy show, but Atticus never lost his temper. Throughout his whole testimony Atticus remained completely neutral to the situation while most would have lost their patience with Bob. One of these situations is when his children go to Arthur Radley’s house to try to see Boo. He sees that the kids had actually been messing with Boo instead of at Miss Rachel’s house. He was able to tell the kids were lying the instant he saw them. Another situation like this is when Mayella Ewell is giving her testimony. She did not give a very good story, but Atticus could tell she was lying before she even started. He saw that Mayella was at fault for the entire situation with Tom and made everyone see she was a liar. Atticus did such a good job at exposing her that if Tom was not black, they would have won the case right
