In “To Kill A Mockingbird” the story takes place in the small town of Maycomb. Maycomb is a fictional place in Southern Alabama. It’s one of those towns where everybody knows everybody. The time period is around the 1930’s, during that time lives the Finch family. They go through several, weird, tragic events that lead up to the biggest event. Throughout this story there are several prejudice people that go out of their way to insult the Finch family. In this essay I will correlate these events and ways of life to my life and modern day society. First of all, right off the bat you notice different ways they speak and act. For example,” ‘s not any funnier’n yours. Aunt Rachel says your name’s Jeremy Atticus Finch.” (Lee,7). This quote is a good representation on how they talk and act differently. I understand that schools get closed due to snow all the time, but what’s peculiar is how much they get. “ I don’t want you all to be disappointed, but I doubt if there’ll be enough snow for a snowball.” (Lee,64). That clearly shows there was no reason for a snow day. Compared to today, it has to be a lot of snow to where the roads don’t get plowed to later in the day. Another major difference is that it is in Alabama. There is never snow down there, so you can see how much it changed most likely due to global warming. It really shows how much we have changed since then.
In conclusion, it’s quite clear to see how we have changed throughout history. It has not only changed the ways we act and talk, but also the physical way as well. Now of days we are much more technologically advanced and have better rules and laws. The courtrooms are also much more trustworthy. Overall we are just a much different society in comparison to the 1930’s. With that being said, it makes me wonder, what will our future will be
