Atticus Lessons In To Kill A Mockingbird
Throughout the novel To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus shows many ways of how great of a teacher he is. The children love their father and think he is a great person, he teaches them valuable lessons throughout the chapters. In chapter nine Scouts classmates say that her …daddy defended niggers” (80) but she is not sure what they mean. Scout asks her dad to explain to her what it means and he tells her to never use the word “nigger”, and that it is common (80). Atticus then explains about the Tom Robinson case. Many people in the town don’t think he should defend him because he is an African American. Atticus believes that everyone should get a fair trial even though he knows that he will not win the case, and he feels that if he doesn’t defend
this case he will be viewed as a hypocrite. Atticus tells Scout not to fight anymore and she obeys him when she refused to fight the children at school
