Atticus Point Of View In To Kill A Mockingbird
Atticus once said “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view”. In this passage you can see Atticus talking to Scout about understanding different people's point of view. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many examples of never fully understanding what one has gone through until one has lived in someone else's shoes.
Throughout the novel, Scout does not think or care about others and what they're going through; however, the only exception is Boo Radley. She cares about herself and nothing else. Later on, Atticus teaches her about other people's point of view. For example, “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb in his

She especially does not like Atticus because he supports Tom Robinson in the trial. For example, “ if I said as sunnily as I could, “ hey Mrs, Dubose”. I would receive for an answer “ don’t you say hey to me you ugly girl you say good afternoon, Mrs, Dubose” ( Lee 133). When Jem and Scout walked by Mrs, Dubose house, she said some bad words but Jem and Scout do not realize that she is going through a very hard time because of her disease and is having a rough couple of days. Furthermore, “ Where are you going at this time of day?” she shouted “ playing hooky, I suppose. I’ll just call up the principal and tell him” ( Lee 134). Mrs, Dubose thinks that Jem and Scout are really bad people from her perspective. When she grew up everything was different then it was during this time period so she thinks Jem and Scout are doing things wrong. Lastly, “ your father’s no better than the ------- and trash he works for” ( Lee 135). Mrs, Dubose is going through a tough time and she might think it sounds good but to Jem and Scout it is very hurtful. Mrs, Dubose does not have much things to look forward to so, to she is also making other people’s life miserable. As you can see Mrs, Dubose has come to her conclusions about Jem and Scout. Mrs, Dubose thinks that Jem and Scout are bad influences and for this reason she treats them poorly.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a mockingbird, one should never judge a person until they have walked around in their shoes and have seen what life is like for them. This novel teaches us a lot about other people's perspective and one should not judge until they know what that person is facing in their lives and have walked in their

"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This quote is taken from chapter three, on page thirty of the novel. Not only is it just moral advice from Atticus to Scout, it is but a sheer beginning of Scout's magnificent path to adulthood. These simple words of wisdom from her father represented a similar way in which Atticus led his own life. He can easily relate to his children and refer to everything in a way where his kids can understand it ("climb into his skin and walk around in it"). Scout struggles with trying to put her father's advice into reality. Near the end of the novel, Scout accomplishes this by putting herself in "Boo Radley's skin" and that way shows a huge step to maturity. Scout's journey to adulthood took a giant leap thanks to her father, Atticus, who gave her moral advice that she would always remember.…

He didn’t speak up when she spoke about Scout or himself, but the minute Miss Dubose said something about Atticus that is when the tide had changed. The next time Jem passed by the older woman’s house, he destroyed her Camellia’s. Atticus had assigned Jem to clean up and work on the beautiful, white flowers, and he had to read to the old woman everyday for a month. Jem would suffer through the whole punishment without a complaint. What the kids didn’t know was that Miss Dubose suffered from a morphine addiction, and Jem reading to her help with that problem. Jem’s perspective didn’t change until a month and a half later when Miss Dubose had passed away. She had given Atticus a single white Camellia flower to give to Jem. It was almost as if she was stating that she had for given Jem for destroying her flowers. The Camellia represents the racism in Maycomb, and with the flowers being white it hints to the racial tension in the town. When Jem read to her it showed the more appropriate to handle the racism instead of acting out right away. The way his view changed was he understood more about the bravery Miss Dubose had with the addiction and how she handled what was happen to her.
