fighting, fist fighting, and using axes. Attila was prepared for war at a very young age just like many other Hun children. Attila the Hun grew up in a family of very powerful kings. His father, Mundzuk, ruled a tribe of Huns. Mundzuk died when Attila was young, perhaps in a bloody raid to gather loot for his followers. Attila and his brother Blenda were then raised by their uncles. Their uncles ruled a great number of Hun warriors and they expanded their power while Attila was growing up. They showed Attila what it took to gain and hold power among the Huns.
Accomplishments Attila was a very successful man indeed, but in a very evil way.
When Attila’s uncles had both passed away, he and his brother Blenda were left in charge over the empire. Attila suspected that his brother was honored more than he was, so he had his brother killed so he could be the only ruler of the empire. Attila now the only ruler of the empire, started to invade the eastern half of the Roman Empire in the 440’s. This caused many emperors to negotiate with Attila a peace treaty of an annual fee of 660 pounds of gold in 434. In other different cities he would attack, he would make them pay 2,100 pounds of gold each year. If some cities would refuse to pay him, he would send his men to destroy the city. In 434, Roman Emperor Theodosius II paid a tribute to Attila, but Attila broke the peace treaty, destroying towns along the Danube River before moving into the empire's interior and obliterating Naissus and Serdica, his home …show more content…
town.
He then decided to move toward Constantinople. He defeated the main Eastern Roman forces in a number of battles. Upon reaching the sea both north and south of Constantinople, however, Attila realized the impossibility of an attack on the capital's great walls by his army, which consisted largely of his horsemen. Subsequently, Attila retargeted and destroyed what was left of the Eastern Roman Empire's forces. Whenever raiding a city, Attila would take all the ladies and enslave them to sell. Then Attila would take all the men and give them two options, to die right on the spot or join his army. After this he would take all of their riches, and sell them for more money. This defiantly would strike fear into people of all ages, making him the worst kind of evil there was. Attila was never one to give up in battle.
He would always keep pushing, even though he knew he was going to lose. Attila was a very strategic man, when he was losing he would always know how to fix it. Attila would sacrifice anything to win, even if it meant sacrificing his own men. Everyone who knew about Attila was smart enough to give him what he wanted, because if u didn’t he would kill you and your village. Everyone would do anything to keep Attila happy so he wouldn’t strike war with you. Attila was a very strong, bold, and fierce man. Anyone who thought they could face him was just plain stupid.
Wars Attila was very strong and fierce when it came to battles. He was in hundreds of wars, and was able to survive all of them. He was much loathed man, and was a target to many people. But he still survived. He was a very evil man, who killed and took thousands of homes all across the eastern half of the Roman Empire. Attila should have died in battle, after all of those wars he was in. But he didn’t.
Death Attila should have died in the many battles and wars he was in, but he actually died in his bed on his wedding night.
It is said that he had too much to drink on his wedding night, and passed out on his bed. When his new wife Ildico woke up, she saw her husband lying dead on their new bed. (See appendix C) Ildico was too scared to call or run to anyone, so eventually the guards broke down the door. When the guards broke down the door, they saw Attila in a pool of blood, and Ildico frozen in place scared to death. Attila was already dead by the time they made it in the room Attila was already dead lying face down with blood dripping from his mouth. The soldiers speculated that Ildico might have killed Attila, so they killed her.
Remembrance Attila will forever be known as a war leader who loved to kill, he was defiantly a man u wanted to stay clear of. Attila never wanted to make peace with anyone, but he made a few treaties, so he would be able to make more money. Attila is also very well remembered for his wars, and the thousands of people he killed to get what he wanted. Christians feared him, and called him the “Scourge of God” which means the instruments of God’s wrath. Attila was also very well known for how he over threw the Roman Empire except for
Constantinople.
