Australia is a unique country with a variety of flora and fauna, seen in no other continent this is complimented well with a variety of people from many backgrounds. Australian identity is hard to define, the way foreign media and nationals view Australia does not necessarily represent Australia, and the qualities expressed in these stereotypes aren’t portrayed in all Australians. In fact, there is no way to distinguish the perfect Australia as there isn’t one. These ideas are supported by Cavan Hogue’s article which quote says “Perhaps the best we can do is to define an Australian as one who lives here, is a citizen and accepts certain core values which characterise Australian society.” When a country does not have much diversity, it would be easy for them to have one true identity but when you have people from all over the world it is hard to have one true identity. We may find some things in common with each other, but we might also find differences with each other for example during the Cronulla riots. In the second slide you can see an image where two individuals of middle eastern origin are being shielded by police during the Cronulla riots.
