Salzburg and Mozart
Introduction
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most emblematic figures of Austria. This paper will relate his story and the history of his birthplace, Salzburg. Before presenting the components of this work, we would like to give a quick peek into Austria, and the city of Salzburg, in order to be able to place this presentation of Mozart into context. Austria, or officially the Federal Republic of Austria, is a neutral federal state of central Europe, with no access to the sea. It is surrounded by Germany, the Czech Republic in the north, Slovakia and Hungary at the east, Slovenia and Italy at the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein at the west. This central and strategic location explains the dynamic history of Austria. Its capital and biggest city is Vienna which is located in the state of Vienna. As a federal republic, Austria has 9 states. One of them is the state of Salzburg, which capital is the city of Salzburg, the fourth-largest city in the country with a population of 145,851 inhabitants. Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. The city was the setting for parts of the musical play and film The Sound of Music.
After putting this paper briefly into context, we will explain how this work is going to be divided for a better understanding and better coverage of the life of the 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. First, his childhood will be presented, then his family, and his birthplace. After that, we will tackle his works. We decided to divide this part into his early works from 1756 to 1773 and his later work from 1774 to 1791. Finally, the virtuosi’s adulthood and death will be narrated.
