The competitive environment in today’s business world poses many dangers to the sustainability of the biosphere, which is so vital to life. Business organizations have a responsibility to help sustain and preserve the environment for future generations. Corporations must take initiative in developing business plans that incorporate sustainable business practices into the strategic direction of the organization. Successful achievement of a sustainable business plan also requires identification of barriers to implementation and development of strategies to overcome such barriers. In addition, to measure the success of sustainable business practices, organizations must continually monitor the progress and communicate results of their sustainable plan efforts. A review of the Riordan Manufacturing’s current business practices helped to illustrate the development and implementation of a successful sustainability plan. Riordan must concentrate on developing a plan to address unsustainable practices such as the release of harmful emissions, improper disposal of off-spec raw materials, and the release of harmful solvent cleaners into the biosphere. To implement these strategies and secure the improvement of Riordan’s sustainability, the organization must anticipate financial, social, ethical, technical, and practical barriers to these plans. I have many goals in my life that I wanted to fulfill; one of those goals is to have economic security. During these past 18 months that our country was submerged in recession, it pressed me to reflect on how important it is to have economic security. During that period of time, I was reflecting about which would be the best plan of action that can help me to reach my goals. I came to the conclusion that the only good plan was to go back to the University and to obtain a degree. I currently work in a company as a general manager, but that does not give me the security that I need to project my future. And this was the main reason, why I decide to enroll in DeVry University. Now that I’m an active student, I feel that I am constructing a bright future and that my goals are going to become a reality once I graduate. After graduation, my plan is to work for the government for few years, after that period of time; I’m planning to develop my own company that would be dedicated to accounting services for individuals, companies, and to offer financial advice.…

Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of working with Brady Sark, from chaperoning during Marching Band season to assisting him during the Indoor Percussion Ensemble competition season. And to say the least, there have been some memorable moments. Such as a few years ago in February, we endured two hours to and from Toledo on a bus with no heat. On another trip to Toledo, we witnessed Brady make an emergency purchase of a speaker, because ours had been borrowed and locked away by the Ticket to Broadway cast. Another time was at a North Royalton performance in January with heavy snowfall, the front ensemble equipment had to be pushed through unshoveled sidewalks just to get into the performance gymnasium. Then for the first performance this year for Indoor Percussion, finding out that everything we needed wouldn't fit into the equipment truck. Although, I have to say the best one was, in Wapakoneta for State Indoor Percussion competition, Brady insisted that we take the bus all the way across town for lunch at the Waffle House, just because Brady likes, Waffle House. By the way, did you know there are 47 other eating establishments in Wapakoneta to choose from? Some closer to the school? And after all of that, I find out from Brady that I am the Percussion Ensemble Representative, not the Drumline Representative. Oh well, how do you expect someone who was a brass player to understand that concept?…
