Babe Ruth Nicknames

George Herman Ruth also known as ,Babe Ruth, was born on February 6,1895 in Baltimore Maryland. Babe Ruth had many nicknames such as, “The Sultan of Swat”. He also had two other nicknames of “The Big Bam”, and “Jack Dunn’s Baby”, and many others besides those. On February 14,1914 Babe Ruth signed his first contract with the minor-league baseball team Baltimore Orioles. The man who signed Ruth was named Jack Dunn, a former major league player and the owner and manager of the Orioles. Legend has it that he hit the longest home run hit in Fayetteville up to that time, some 60 feet farther than the previous local record hit by Jim Thorpe. During July 9,1914, Babe Ruth’s contract was sold to the Boston Red Sox with two
other players for 16,000 dollars. It was part of a fire sale by the Orioles team owner Jack Dunn. Who had found himself in financial straits, when the presence of a Baltimore franchise in the new Federal League obliterated the Orioles’ attendance. On July 11,1914 Ruth made his first major-league debut at Fenway Park. As a starting pitcher, he pitched seven innings for the win but was 0-for-2 for at the plate. He struck out against Cleveland lefty Willy Mitchel in his first major-league at-bat. But sadly on August 16,1948 in, Manhattan New York City, NY, he died. Babe Ruth died from esophageal cancer. Leaving much of his estate to the Babe Ruth Foundation for underprivileged children. He was survived by his second wife, Claire, and his daughters, Dorothy and Julia. That was the life of Babe Ruth.
