Babe Ruth was one of the eight children in the Ruth family. His parents were George Herman Sr. and Katherine Herman. Six of his siblings died in infancy and he had only one surviving sister. His parents noticed that he was becoming very deviant as a child so they sent him to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys which was run by Catholic monks. The school was known for its strict order and discipline. During this time he discovered his talent for playing baseball. come and watch Ruth play. Impressed by the boy’s game Dunn had him sign a contract with the team in 1914. Ruth was only 19 at that time and required a guardian to complete the contract. Dunn became his legal guardian.
In 1914 Ruth was signed to play minor league baseball for the Orioles but was soon traded to the Red Sox.
By 1916, he had built a reputation as an outstanding pitcher who hit home runs. Babe Ruth won three World Series Championships with Boston. He wanted to play a different position so he was allowed to convert to an outfielder. Babe Ruth broke the single season home run record in 1919. After that season, Red Sox owner Harry Frazee controversially traded Ruth to the Yankees. He played 15 years with New York, Ruth helped the Yankees win seven American League Championships and four World Series\championships. As part of the Yankees lineup in 1927, Ruth hit 60 home runs, extending his MLB single season record. Babe Ruth broke the single season home run record over 4 times! He spent the last couple of seasons with the Boston Braves then retired in 1935. During his career, Ruth led the AL in home runs during a season twelve

Babe Ruth was a wealthy man with no financial worries, Ruth enjoyed the final 13 years of his life. Babe bowled and fished for the majority of his life after baseball. Ruth would even bowl for 7 hours at a time. He bowled alone, preferring not to keep score. Ruth began getting severe headaches and pains in his neck, and went to the hospital for observation. According to daughter Dorothy, the headaches were so severe that he threatened to kill himself. Ruth was diagnosed with throat cancer. Sadly, he was never to be out of pain for the final 21 months of his life. Ruth died August 16, 1948.
Babe Ruth is one of the greatest baseball players in the history of the MLB. Ruth was a true champion, not only in statistics, but he had great sportsmanship and a genuine love for the game. With that said, Ruth is an inspirational figure many young individuals all around the world today.
