Babies Documentary Analysis
Israt Ara Motaleb
According to the documentary “Babies,” there were many scenes in the film that most clearly demonstrated the interconnectedness, the similarity in all human behavior. For instance, when the babies from the urban and rural areas, even though they grew up in different environments and are from different backgrounds, they showed the same capabilities in all human behavior. An example is when all babies look around their surroundings and makes different sounds hiccuping, snoring, crying, laughing and smiling in their sleep, playing or when their mother is talking to them. We see the mutual attachment that the infants have with their mothers. In Namibia, the baby Ponijao was snoring, making sounds in his sleep and then we see how

In this rural place, we see how the baby eats and touches whatever it finds on the ground with dirt and plays in the water for fun. However, in Mongolia, the infant Bayar, we see how the baby cries because of the sound of the machine, while the mother is cutting the other son’s hair. The mother starts humming to the baby for him to sleep. Since the place is a rural place, we see how the baby goes around and touches the animals and just stares at them, such as the rooster while he was laying in bed and the goat, when he was taking a bath. This shows that the babies look around their surroundings to understand their environment which influences their behavior. In Japan, the infant Mari also plays with toys and listens to the sound, when her father was talking on the phone he was shaking the toy back and forth in order for her to be silent. In addition, Mari cries when she sees the animals in the zoo, especially the gorilla, where her mother takes her to see the animals. Also, she smiles and laughs when she plays with the chair, paper, and takes out the CD’s. In San Francisco, the infant Hattie looks in the mirror, smiling and laughing, the mother reads books to her and the baby makes sounds as she reads and stares. She smiles in her sleep and looks around when her mother

The film showing in Epworth and Owston Ferry in July was ‘The Child Killers’ depicting a true episode of the invasion of France. The support film was a Keystone Cops comic! As noted earlier the obsession with fifth columnists in England meant that spy pictures were very popular. One such was ‘The Spy,' a two-reel drama furthering the belief that German spies were everywhere. Another was ‘The Deadly Model,’ a drama about the German Spy System in London, but by far the most chilling drama shown during these summer months was ‘The Mad Dog of War.’…

Another study about culture variation is Tronick et 01. (1992). He studied an African tribe called the Efe who live in extended family groups. The infants were looked after unlike western mothers, they were breastfed by different women. However, they did sleep with their own mother at night. The conclusion was that despite such abnormal ways, the infants, at six months, still showed one primary attachment.…

From Birth to 2 years, a baby grows, gains weight and develops mobility rapidly, learning to roll, crawl, stand and walk in succession. Jean Piaget (in Smith et al, 1998) describes this phase as the sensori-motor stage when babies use their senses to explore and create mental representations of their environments known as schemas which provide links through memory between different experiences, grouping representations together. For instance grabbing and sucking objects adds to their ‘sucking’ schema or group of thoughts. They also learn to recognise the faces of their main carers early on. Babies and children of this age enjoy stimulation from carers and brightly coloured objects. They learn through imitation and often reflect the mood being expressed around them, for instance laughing in response to laughter. By 2 years of age they also begin to enjoy fantasy games as their memory develops. Language develops gradually by physical imitation and association, beginning simple sounds and vowels, building up to simple words and by age 2 are thought to use a vocabulary of around 50 words. Emotionally and socially babies form attachments to their main carers from birth…

I could relate to the movie because I also grew up poor. It’s full of incredibly sad circumstances. It’s sad to see families, or anyone really, living in a homeless shelter. It’s sad that in a country where there is so much excess, anyone has to be homeless. It is truly depressing when a person, especially a child, sees other people have nice, clean things and eating food, food that is a special treat for a poor person. The ridicule and humiliation that stem from material items are sadly inherent of our culture. All of the children seemed wise beyond their ages. I believe this is one of the many effects of poverty on children. I don’t fully believe in the idea that people make their own circumstances. Children definitely have no control over their circumstances, and their childhood is going to shape the adults they become.…

Although each child develops at their own rate, there are things or certain milestones that are to be expected when reaching a certain age. Between birth and 3 months old babies cannot understand what is happening to them. They do not understand that they are being cared for, and they do not even realise that they are people. They feel ‘happy’ when they feed but don’t fully understand what ‘happy’ is. As babies are not able to think, they will pick up on somebody’s feelings and mirror them. Although babies grow to exist by themselves, outside of their mother’s womb, most of their bodies are still very immature. As they don’t understand their environment, babies can become very distressed if they are given too much to see. From birth to 3 months, babies communicate with others by crying. This allows their carer to know when they are hungry, tired, etc. From birth, when a baby’s cheek is touched, they will turn their head towards the feeling. By six weeks…

The essay explains that baby is the key that can help to change the behavior and attitude of children; it helps the children understand their feelings as well as the others. The author points out the positive outcomes when children are surrounding the babies. First, the children change their moods and become more social when they are exposed with the baby. “Tough kids smile, disruptive kids focus, shy kids open up”. It puts the children in a different place where they act differently than their usual. In addition, children learn to understand the role of being a parent and be able to empathize it by comforting a crying baby. It takes a lot work than they really think. Finally, it creates a caring environment when children are involved in an…
